2nd XI
Knowl Hill
IX 213-9 Sandhurst 2nd XI 215-4 Berkshire
Cricket League Division Four
Already
confirmed as champions, Sandhurst 2nd XI turned up at Knowl Hill for the penultimate game of the League season
without their two highest run scorers, Nigel Birt and Drew ‘The Mouth’ Birch, and without vice captain and top
bowler Mark Clapham. The challenge this week was to keep up the intensity of approach having already won the league.
Skipper Simon Coxwell won the toss and chose to bowl first on an overcast day.
Russell Stone and Sunam Malla opened the bowling with contrasting fortunes, Stone bowling with his brain and Malla bowling
like a drain. The first wicket was taken courtesy of a smart run out by Chris Pharo with the score at 28. This
masked a terrible display with the ball and in the field generally, and with the regular bowlers unable to find a line or
length, Coxwell turned to League bowling virgins Steve Sullivan and Connor Pharo but despite their best efforts the general
malaise continued. For Knowl Hill, opener Millson and all rounder Liam Duffy completed 500 runs for the
season and at 180-2 a total in excess of 240 looked on the cards. The loss of Millson & Duffy in quick succession
exposed a soft underbelly to the batting order and 7 wickets fell for 37 runs to finish on 213-9. Stone, Coxwell and
Hall ( on his weekly visit to Watership Down ) each took 3 wickets with Stone the pick of the bowlers. Sandhurst definitely
felt as though they had got away with their worst fielding performance of the season as they went into tea. Persevering with Sunam Malla as an opener partnered by the experienced
Kevin Speakman, Sandhurst decided to waste no time in getting numbers 3, 4 & 5 to the crease. Malla, Speakman and
no.3 Sullivan contributed a total of 4 runs (on average more than 1 each) but this was merely a curtain raiser to the main
event.....the tour de force.... Steve (Juicy) James and Mark (Runny) Honey. Words cannot describe
the quality of their partnership, taking the score from 27 to 212 in a partnership of 185. Honey fulfilling his potential
with a flawless display of effortless timing including 9 sixes in his fantastic total of 117 off 81
balls ( Mummy Lisa was in tears). and James hitting no sixes in 82 not out to show that his 62 last week was no fluke
( No sixes there either). Against the odds Sandhurst
reached the target with 6 wickets and 12 overs to spare to record a really rewarding win. The celebrations carried on at Russell Stone’s hostelry ‘The George on The Green’
in Holyport, where Fluff brought out the Woodmans which was much appreciated and then spirited back to Sandhurst for future
enjoyment. But today was the day we all loved Honey more than Winnie The
Pooh. Start resting your livers for next Saturday night chaps!!!

Midweek XI
Sandhurst Midweek XI 170-9 Finchamstead
CC 204-4 Bracknell & District Evening Cricket League
SANDHURST Midweek XI finished the season on a loss against Finchamstead.
On a sunny Thursday evening Sandhurst turned up at Finch with arguably their strongest team of the season with A.Rahman
and A.Bradshaw coming to the the team for the first time this season needing some game time before the weekend.
Skipper
A.Birch won the toss and elected to bowl first on what seeemed a green bowler friendly surface. But
from the first over it was clear it wasnt so friendly to bowlers as at the end of a good opening over by A.Rahman 2 sixes
where hit on the up over mid-on. A.Bradshaw had the perfect start bowling an in-swinging yorker to Finch skipper A.Jones clean
bowling him for a golden duck. THe pair bowled well but the Finch batting was up to the task and scored freely on what seemed
now a great batting wicket. Bradshaw finished with 1-46 and Rahman 0-42.
Finchamstead were cruising along at over
10 an over and were 100-1 after 8 overs. With pace being easily hit around M.Clapham was brought on the slow the scoring rate
and could well have ended up with 5 wickets, beating the bat consistently and inducing edges and inside edge past the stumps.
M.Clapham picked up just the two wickets both caught by his son Anthony on the long off boundary and kept a lid on the finch
scoring rate. Unfortunately runs still came from the other end as J.Clement went for 23 run in his single over, again with
pace going for runs C.Hall was introduced into the attack to bowl his off cutters and varied pace. C.Hall wasn't as successful
as Clapham but still kept some control over the finch batsmen and causing the odd problem, finishing with figures of 0-48
off 4 overs. Finch finished with 204-4 after 16 overs. Sandhurst Midweek XI had only surpassed 200 once before, so it was always going to be a hard task to do it again
and against a strong Finchamstead team. A.Shallom and N.Ahmed opened the batting, the two most aggressive and attacking batsmen
Sandhurst have had in recent years. both got off to a flying start. A.Shallom hitting 12 off the first over and N.Ahmed hitting
a 6 over mid-on for his first scoring shot. Sandhurst where motoring along and over 10 an over until Finch opening bowlers
took the pace of the ball and started mixing up there pace only conceding 8 runs in 2 overs. Shallom was the first to depart
edging on to his stumps for 29. leaving Sandhurst 50-1. This started a mini collapse as N.Ahmed and A.Rahman departed shortly
after leaving Sandhirst on the brink of a humiliating score. A.Clapham and A.Birch were at the crease together with Sandhurst
in a spot of trouble, the pair started off slowly working ones and twos off the Finchamstead spinners.
After a
few overs of rebuilding it was time to go on the attack and it was the bowling of Davely that suffered going for 31 runs in
his 3rd over, with A.Birch hitting four 6's and Clapham(30) chipping in with a 4 along with singles taken throughout
the over. Birch was out the next over bowled by Bazley for 47 off 20 balls. Sandhurst were 135-5 off 11 overs still with a
chance of winning. Unfortunately wickets kept fall as well as runs still being scored quickly and eventually Sandhurst ran
out of overs finishing on 170-8 off their 16 overs. A Disappointing end to
the season after starting off so well. Many tanks to of the players that have made themselves available throughout the season
and lets continue to be competitive next season

Shallom
breaks another record! Sandhurst veteran Aron Shallom this weekend surpassed 5000 Berkshire league runs. He scored
115 not out against Sulhampstead off only 61 balls. This is the 2nd Premiership hundred Shallom as scored, his first verses
Pinkneys Green only a few seasons ago. As well as scoring over 5000 runs Shallom is only 8 wickets away from taking 700 League
victims too.
Below are some quotes from long standing members of Sandhurst Cricket Club and the BCL Cricketers
on the success of Aron Shallom
Des Sussex "For 2 decades Aron has been one of the most respected, and genuinely feared (by batsmen
and bowlers alike) players in the Berkshire League - I'm glad I never had to face him on a quick bouncy wicket!. He has been
the first name on the Sandhurst team sheet every match and it has been a joy to play alongside him. Few opponents have been
able to cope with him when he is 'in the zone'. As well as setting club and league milestones, breaking records and winning
matches and trophies, he is a great friend and team mate. He should have an Honours Board all of his own in the pavilion,
a great bloke and a genuine Sandhurst and Berkshire Cricket League Legend"
Chris Pharo "Playing alongside Aron Shallom throughout
his extaordinary Sandhurst career has been nothing short of a privilge. A supreme bowler, he could terrify the best batsmen
with his pace, movement and aggression and his batting continues to go from strength to strength. The kind of batsmen that
people would pay to see. And all this from one of the the most decen, genuine men I've ever met. A legend." Rick Ashton (Stoke Row) "I've
only played in the Premier the past 3 years but a very, very good player and also a bloody nice guy to boot. Hits a mean ball
and by all accounts it's a good thing I haven't faced the 90's version with the ball. Now all he has to do is find a weekend
where nothing clashes with a reps side fixture!!!"
Adam Birch "Azza is a quality bloke, having many a good
nights down the club with him and strangly enough he can find a school friend anywhere he goes when hes been drinking. As
for his cricket, age isnt holding him back. He may have lost some pace and mobility over the years but noone gives as much
as he does during a game. Hes got great control when he bowls and is devistating when he bats and is always a name i want
in my team for midweek games" If anyone else has something they would like to say about Aron and his career. please contact me

Stains
take advantage of poor batting
Sandhurst Sunday XI 100 Stains & Laleham 213 Sunday League
SANDHURST Sunday XI suffer another onslaught by the Stains & Laleham.
After loosing the toss Sandhurst were expecting another run around as earlier in the season. But Sandhurst had the perfect
start with A.Clapham removing R.Ramdin for the first ball of the match having him caught at square leg by K.Speakman. Then
K.Mullard who had hit 162 in the previous encounter started to look good and hit some big boundaries. But then R.Jenkins
got the important breakthrough having H.Colbert caught at deep square leg again by K.Speakman for 25. Then Sandhurst got
the important breakthrough with R.Dobson having K.Mullard caught for 62 at long on by A.Clapham. Then R.Dobson followed
it up removing K.Evans bowled for 2, leading Sandhurst's fightback. Then R.Honey got himself in on the act having B.Nannery
caught by a diving R.Jenkins for 7. R.Dobson finished his spell removing O.Nicholas for 5, to finish with 3-31 in his 8
overs. Then J.Clement and A.Clapham went about cleaning up the tail, but it was left to K.Speakman to claim the final wicket
of top scorer C.Bolton for 75 caught at long on by Clement. This left sandhurst needing 213 to win.
Sandhurst
needed a solid start but this did not happen with in form batsmen N.Ahmed leaving early for 1 and leaving Sandhurst 20-1.
But three wickets then fell for 7 runs with Speakman, J.Clement (via one of the catches of the season at slip) and A.Clapham.
This left Sandhurst at 44-4 in the 16th over. A lot rested on in form bat A.Birch jnr who the day previously made his
first 50 for the ones. But with A.Feltz and J.Orwin leaving for single figure scores Sandhurst were in real trouble at 55-6
in the 19th over. But M.Orwin and A.Birch jnr started to put a partnership together with A.Birch(39) hitting some big
sixes. But when M.Orwin was caught for 8 Sandhurst then lost 3 more for no runs added, being all bowled out for 100.
Again Sandhurst lost the game with the bat despite a good bowling performance.
